Stephen Freed, R.Ph., Diabetes Educator, Publisher

steveStephen Freed, a registered pharmacist and diabetes educator, is the founder and publisher of Diabetes In Control. He is dedicated to advancing diabetes care for patients, physicians, pharmacists, and nurses. Steve has worked with many physicians helping them manage their diabetes patients. He has been president of the Chicago Chapter of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, is a certified pump trainer, and has developed and presented CE/CME programs for AADE.

Steve is the producer of the Know Your Healthy Steps Program for people with diabetes and pre-diabetes which is used by over 500,000 patients and published in five languages. He also produced the 5hr CD Program, “Secrets to Normal Blood Sugars,” a treatment protocol for normalizing blood sugars using Dr. Richard K. Bernstein’s (author of the Diabetes Solution and The Diabetes Diet) philosophy that “Every patient with diabetes is entitled to the same blood sugars as a person without diabetes.”

David L. Joffe, BSPharm, CDE, FACA, Editor-in-Chief

daveDave Joffe is Editor-in-chief of the Diabetes In Control e-newsletter and website. A graduate of University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, he has practiced in the Tampa Bay area since 1986, has been providing diabetes and cardiovascular care in Tampa Bay since 1995, and spent 2 years as an Eckerd Patient Care Pharmacist managing over 100 diabetes patients. Dave currently sees patients in over 30 primary care and endocrinologists offices.

He is Past-President of the Florida West Coast Educators Association, Past-President of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and past-president of the AADE Pump Specialty Practice Group. Dave is a Certified Insulin Pump Trainer for Medtronic, Animas, and Insulet. He is a certified CGMS (continuous glucose monitoring system) trainer, and has delivered CE to over 20,000 medical professionals. Dave has also developed diabetes projects for the Sweet Bay Grocery Chain and Pharmacy in the Tampa Bay area, and sees patients in private practice and for insulin pump management.

Maryanne Ackershoek, PhD, Managing Editor

MA pic Maryanne has extensive experience in writing and editing with a PhD in English from Brown University. She has worked on many email publications and websites spanning over a 20 year career in web development. Her expertise in content management, website taxonomy and categorization as well as email analysis, testing and improvement will help the Diabetes In Control website and enewsletters grow to their full potential.
